Tuesday AM Council recap 3/18/13
On our March 18th Council meeting we started things off by hearing a resolution celebrating the men’s and women’s Gonzaga Basketball teams for making it into the NCAA tournament. We are all very proud of the team and wish both of them the best of luck. Igna Note of the Grandview/Thorpe neighborhood gave a great presentation to the Council on the Trolley Trail that goes through the area which many people use for recreation.
Our legislative business for the evening was slim. We voted unanimously to defer two resolutions: one resolution to confirm the appointment of Brian Coddington as the new Director of Communications and Marketing for the City of Spokane and the other resolution to adopt a process for the City to start the redevelopment process for the Joel E. Mann Center.
In addition to those resolutions being deferred, the Council passed an Ordinance on a 4-3 vote to amend our City code to reflect the fact that the Weights and Measures Department no longer exists within the City of Spokane. Council members Waldref, Stuckart and I voted against this Ordinance because we believe the Department should never have been moved out of the City.
